But what about the average person who doesn&#8217;t want to train for track and field or a particular sport and is solely concerned with burning fat? Is there an interval training protocol that is best to maximize fat loss?</p>
<p>Some people recommend long duration intervals (ie. 1 minute hard, 2 minutes recovery) while others recommend shorter duration intervals that can elicit a much harder effort. So the answer to the interval training for fat loss question is yes &#8211; but it isn&#8217;t what you think. Here&#8217;s why&#8230;Research published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology compared the fat-burning effects of two different interval training workouts, both lasting 40 minutes.</p>
<p>The first consisted of short intervals lasting 6 seconds, with 9-second rest periods. The second workout involved long intervals lasting 24 seconds, with 36-second rest periods. It&#8217;s important to note that the treadmill speed was identical during both the short and long interval workouts. Moreover, the ratio between work and recovery bouts was also the same (ie. 2:3 work to rest), meaning that the total amount of time spent running on the treadmill (16 minutes) was also identical. Despite the fact that exercise intensity and duration were kept constant during both trials, there were large differences in fat oxidation. In fact, the number of fat calories burned was approximately 3 times LOWER during the long (24 seconds) interval workout. To understand why the short intervals were so much more effective at increasing fat oxidation, it&#8217;s important to understand a little more about a substance called myoglobin.</p>
<p>The mysterious myoglobin</p>
<p>Myoglobin is a large protein that binds to oxygen inside your muscle cells. Think of it a little like a &#8220;reserve&#8221; oxygen supply. As the blood has hemoglobin, the muscles have myoglobin. Both store oxygen. According to physiologist Olof Astrand, myoglobin is repeatedly used and reloaded during the work and recovery phases of interval exercise. However, as the duration of the work period increases, myoglobin&#8217;s oxygen stores are reduced. Your body needs more oxygen to burn fat as a fuel (compared to carbohydrate or protein). When oxygen supplies become limited, carbohydrates then provide a greater proportion of energy. This is also seen in the &#8220;crossover effect&#8221; where carbohydrates become the more dominant source of fuel at higher exercise intensities compared to fats which are mainly oxidized at lower intensities.</p>
<p>And furthermore, because lactic acid, a by-product of carbohydrate metabolism, &#8220;blocks&#8221; fat burning, intense intervals that continue beyond the point at which myoglobin loses its supply of oxygen (usually above 15 seconds or so) rely to a greater extent on carbohydrate as a source of energy and, thus, don&#8217;t burn as much fat as shorter intervals. As mentioned, because myoglobin holds enough oxygen to last for 5-15 seconds it would make send to perform short, intense rather than long intervals to promote a greater rise in fat oxidation. As such, if your goal is to lose fat, then limit your work intervals to a maximum of 15 seconds. Studies also show that shorter intervals don&#8217;t feel as physically demanding as long intervals which means that you can get better results without feeling like you&#8217;re working harder. <br />
How much rest should you take between work bouts?</p>
<p>This depends on the duration of the work intervals and your fitness level. The longer the work interval, the more myoglobin gets used up, and the longer it takes to &#8220;reload&#8221;. Therefore, you&#8217;d need more time to recover. The study alluded to earlier used rest intervals that were 1.5 times greater than the work intervals (6 seconds work: 9 seconds rest). Based on these findings, a 15-second work interval would require a minimum of 22 seconds rest. However, if you&#8217;re new to interval training I would recommend starting with a work-to-rest ratio of 1:3. This means that if you work hard for 15 seconds, give yourself 45 seconds to recover. As you become fitter, then you can reduce the amount of recovery.</p>

Luckily, there are many exercises out there that are not only effective in helping you lose the weight, but they&#8217;re also fun and exciting. With the following tips you&#8217;ll be able to supercharge that workout in order to get you back down to pre-pregnancy weight before you know it.</p>
<p>The Reverse Curl: A woman who has just given birth to a baby will need to do some real work to get her abs back in shape and reverse curls can really help with that. For this exercise, lie down on the floor looking up at the ceiling and bend your knees. Keep your feet on the floor near your hips, keep your arms flat and your neck relaxed and then breathe in and back out as you suck in your abs and lift your hips off of the floor. Slowly return your hips to the floor and then start over. Try to do this twenty times. If you can&#8217;t do all 20 right away, work up to it. Then go for 50, etc.</p>
<p>Not only is this exercise good for your ab muscles and for losing the pouch, it helps you walk tall and with confidence. </p>
<p>Pilates: You might think pilates is slow but it will help you burn over two hundred calories every hour that you do it.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s a lot of calories for just doing a few stretching movements. You can find moves for your workout through DVDs, online videos or even books. One of the best exercises to do after giving birth is to lie on your back and bend your knees. Place your hands behind your head and breathe in. Then contract your abs, lift your head and shoulders off of the floor and breathe back out. Then, straighten your legs so that they form a 45 degree angle while you extend your arms with your palms down. Pump your arms in a rhythmic manner and inhale over the course of five beats. Then, breathe out for five beats. If you can do 100 of these a day you&#8217;ll get into shape faster than you think!</p>
<p>Strengthen abs and lose weight with the classic crunch. Most know that crunches simply require laying on the ground with your hands behind your head and your knees bent. Lift your head and shoulders off the floor inhale through your nose and exhale as you tighten your abs. As you do this bring the ribs towards the hips and relax the bottom. Slowly return to the starting position. At some point you&#8217;ll want to do many more than you start with slowly working toward 50. Be careful not to harm yourself but after reaching 50 add some weight to increase your endurance and challenge. </p>
<p>These are exercises that can all be done while your baby takes a nap. Even if you have to break your workout up into a few exercises throughout the day instead of all at once, that&#8217;s still better than not doing any exercise at all. You can lose your baby weight if you really want to. Thankfully, these three tips can help you quite a bit if you do them often enough.</p>
<p>Each of these techniques might be very useful for yourself through and right after the pregnancy period. However, if you truly want to lose weight quicker during and after the pregnancy period, then you must follow a comprehensive fat burning system that includes both exercise plan and diet regime.</p>

Bodybuilders used to be considered an odd breed and people looked at them in awe but would never consider joining their ranks. One of the things that has changed the overall opinion of the general public is a need to control their weight and become more healthy which bodybuilding can provide. There is a right way and a wrong way to do it, though, so if you are just getting into bodybuilding make sure to read the following tips to get the best results.</p>
<p>Consuming the right foods pre workout is very important for making the right gains. By not eating in the morning you&#8217;ll feel tired and therefore you won&#8217;t do as much in your workout, resulting in a wasted session. The stores of glycogen in your muscles will get burned up really quickly and once it&#8217;s all gone your body will use muscle as an alternative fuel. If you are working out on an empty stomach you will not be able to keep going with your workout so you&#8217;ll be more likely to quit. Ideally you should consume a meal between an hour or two before you get on with your training session. The actual meal should contain low GI carbs, slow acting carbs, or fast acting carbs contained in fruits. Pre-workout supplements are also a good idea to take as they can improve your performance greatly. Lots of people believe that fats are bad however they really aren&#8217;t! A quarter of your daily calories should come from fats such as oils and animal fats. Your body needs to use fats for many fundamental functions which is why removing them from your diet or limiting your intake to really low levels will have a negative impact on your health. Likewise, fat is a form of energy that is burned slowly, keeping you satiated for longer, which means that it is easier to get a lean body.</p>
<p>Keep in mind to alternate the area of your body that you exercise &#8211; it&#8217;s important to train a different body part each day, not the same area for two successive days. One very important rule you must follow is this &#8211; if you train a specific muscle today, tomorrow you must let that muscle rest and repair. Don&#8217;t train the same muscle the following day. Most professional bodybuilders don&#8217;t work out each and every day but, if you want to do so set up a system with your trainer that allows you to alternate which group of muscles, or specific body parts, you work on each day. Make sure to allow at least one day in between so the muscles can repair. For example, one day one you could work the upper body and the next day the lower body. If you don&#8217;t want to train every day, but would prefer every other day, consider the increasingly popular full-body workouts. You rest for a day after each training session to allow your muscles the time they need to heal. You will find several excellent videos on YouTube to show you how to do these routines. Once you&#8217;ve succeeded in your bodybuilding efforts you will have a tremendous surge of self-confidence and you will have learned how to keep yourself in peak health and physical condition. <p> It is ironic in fact, that so many people pack into gyms in an attempt to make themselves look better while neglecting their faces. A first impression is very important, and what is more important in a first impression than someone&#8217;s face? It is going to be a lot harder for people to notice your six pack abs if they are focusing on your jowls.</p>
<p> That is why doing facial exercises every day is as important as exercising the other parts of your body, especially if you are single and looking to mingle. Facial exercise can help you get rid of undereye circles, facial wrinkles and double or triple chins.</p>
<p> Like with all things, some people will be tempted to take the easy way out. In the world of &#8220;facercising&#8221; this is called Botox or plastic surgery. Don&#8217;t let some medical charlatan trick you into allowing him to inject lethal nerve toxins into your face. Botox kills nerves, causes pain, can cause complications, and is pricey. None of this would bother me if it didn&#8217;t look terrible. Everyone can tell when you have had Botox and it looks fake. Also the effects fade after two or three years. Then you are right back to the Botox clinic like a junkie after their next fix. When does it end? </p>
<p> Facial exercise is all natural and the effects are cumulative not diminishing. It is healthy and is the closest thing you can do reverse the signs of aging on your face. Don&#8217;t be fooled be medical procedures, expensive creams, and holistic facial treatments. They make work for a while but they don&#8217;t address the root cause of facial wrinkles and unsightly sagging neck.</p>
<p> It is a sad fact, but we live in a looks driven society. If your face is slowly becoming a melted wax sculpture then you will be left in the dust. Potential mates, friends, and employers are all going to be looking at pictures of your face online before they make any decisions about you. Do you want them to see a wrinkly leather sack with eyes? Or a robust and expressive work of art?
